Individuals in Segregation and Restrictive Confinement by Institution
This dataset details the total number of individuals in restrictive confinement and segregation by institution, region and gender. Some individuals may have both placements in restrictive confinement and segregation conditions, within the reporting period. Therefore, these numbers should not be added together when calculating proportions out of the total.
Note: This dataset may be updated periodically. For information on data updates, please consult the available metadata such as data dictionary and supporting documentation
Version 1.1.
2022-23: data as of July 2023 (restrictive confinement) and August 2023 (segregation).
2023-24 data as of May 2025 (restrictive confinement) and September 2024 (segregation).
2024-25 data as of June 2025.
The dataset follows the UTF-8 encoding standard.
